Description

A coastal exposure, measuring 20m long by 1m high, contains the remnants of a coursed masonry structure. There are no associated deposits, although a slight rise in ground level behind the section may indicate the presence of further buried remains. ShoreUPDATE 11 May 2015 As described, but indications of further structural remains are visible for approximately 50m to the west of this site and 20-30m to the east. The main exposure is visible as a sub-rectangular enclosure behind the coast edge, with the remains of smaller sub-circular earthwork enclosures strung out along the coast edge to either side over a stretch of coastline approximately 100m long. The main exposure includes remnants of coursed walling in section, and several metres of stone paving exposed to the east, with rubble collapse above. Further walling is visible at the eastern extent of this paving. The enclosing earthwork banks of the subsidiary enclosures are also visible in section in the eroding coast edge, These enclosures have been half-sectioned by the sea and are actively eroding in parts, but are now largely lost to erosion.
