Description

A grassy mounded area, 10m in diameter and up to 1.5m high, lies c.42m to the E of NM50. The site comprises an outer, earthen, bank which surrounds a concave centre (3.5m in diameter). Two stretches of earthen bank which extend from the N and S sides of the site are up to 0.4m high and 1m wide. The S bank has eroded over the cliffs; the N bank is soon obscured by rough vegetation. Up to 10% of the area is affected by rabbit damage. This site may be a part of a field system, incorporating a crue or small hut circle, possibly of prehistoric date. It appears to be associated with NM49, NM50, and NM52. 22 May 2015: Site as described, see site ID 5703 for main ShoreUPDATE record.

This is an unusual and interesting site which is not yet understood and which would benefit from a project to investigate and characterise the remains and obtain dating evidence.
