Description

A sub-rectangular structure that is located on the landward edge of the cobble storm beach. This structure measures 2 m E-W by 2.5 m N-S and has an adjoining bank running E from the NE corner. The structure itself is defined partially by turf banks and partially by stone. There is a large quantity of stone visible on top but this seems to be either thrown up by wave action or a later piling up of stones on top of the site. The S side of this structure is being badly eroded by the sea. 31/08/14 Site located as described in original survey. The south edge of site sits approx 1 metre from the top end of the storm cobble beach to the seaward side and the remains appear to extend on the landward side underneath a grass and stone covered mound. The grass strip on the south side separating the site from the beach currently appears stable with vegetation covering the metre from the storm cobble beach. Area of apparent rubble dumping on the south east of site. Recorded as being eroded by the sea but no current apparent erosion visible. Approx 4 metres from the south east & south west corners on the beach there are two single flat faced boulders with surface area if approx 1/2m across with inlaid metal fixing which are rusting. These possibly relate to boat moorings for fishing, probably connected to the site.

The S side of this structure is being badly eroded by the sea. 31/08/14 The remains start to become visible 1 m from the top end of the shingle beach and appear to extend on the landward side underneath a grass and stone covered mound. Structure appears not to be at risk of further erosion and would be recommended to be down graded. remove from priorities
