Description

An 8-9m length of midden, c. 0.1-0.3m deep, extending along the erosion face of a steep rocky part of the shore on the east of Cnip headland. The midden material is visible as a mid to dark brown stained sand with charcoal flecks. This is a highly unstable site which is eroding very quickly. Fifteen sherds and fragments of Iron Age or later pottery were collected from rabbit scrapes around this midden. On the 15th November 2014 Black charcoal flecks visible and small amount of shell.
July 2021. Very limited exposures of dark organic rich deposit with rare shell frags directly over bedrock intermittently exposed, exposure currently not as clear as described previously.
