A complex of maritime features on the coastline in front of Brough Lodge, from south to north: (i) Stone built sloping slipway, now badly damaged and collapsed for a stretch of several metres towards the middle of its length. (ii) A concrete plinth mounted with a boat winch. (iii) a line of a least four boat nausts visible as linear scoops cut into the low grassy bank behind the coast edge, truncated by erosion on the seaward side. Those to the north are more badly eroded. The southernmost naust contains the decayed remains of a wooden sixareen. This was one of the 'flit boats' which transported people and supplies from Fetlar to the Earl of Zetland, the passanger and cargo ship which served the North Isles of Shetland from 1939 until the 1970s when roll-on roll-off ferries were introduced.
The pier is first depicted on the 1940s OS 1-inch map.
