A concentration of burnt stone and ash filling a circa 1m wide shallow cut feature associated with spreads of coal dust is exposed at the top of the sandy section. The feature is located circa 10m west of a salt pan house excavated in 2009-2010 (Trench 4). The feature is certainly related to the 1767-1777 phase of salt pans developed by John Williams for the Sutherland Estate at Brora. It may represent a further building or unidentified feature associated with the industrial complex. |
