Not recorded during survey as general reference to salt works currently being investigated by Clyne Heritage Society. Individual elements were surveyed under their own HER reference number. SCHARP update 09-04-2015 This record refers to the remains of a substantial wall foundation, aligned E-W and over 20m in length. A few photos from the 1970s to 1990s record the wall when it was upstanding. At least one doorway was visible. Clyne Heritage Society and NoSAS recorded the remains of the wall foundation in a Shorewatch project in 2004, 2007 and 2010. The wall is likely to be the remains of the 16th-17th century pan house, contemporary with the girnel and store [Site 11942] located a few metres to the east, excavated in 2010 and 2011. It is now completely destroyed. See all of the Brora Back Beach Data Structure reports (2007-2012) for information. |
