Scotland's Coastal Heritage at Risk

Are Kingholm Quay mooring posts the most unusual in Scotland?

November 21st, 10:24 p.m.

Look closely at the mooring posts at Kingholm Quay, Dumfries and you will find a surprise. Four of the posts are upended cannons. The story according to Roy Kerr of the Port of Dumfries Development Group is that they were originally intended to be shipped out to the Crimean War, but somehow ended up at Kingholm Quay.

If you know more about the cannons at Kingholm Quay - or any other novel re-use of objects at the coast for very different purposes than they were intended -  we'd love to hear from you.
